译文
曾经的歌台，曾经的舞榭，曾经的园林，曾经的宫殿，如今都已经荒废，只有杨柳叶儿青青，还有那湖中的采菱女在清唱着青春永恒的歌谣。
谁还记得吴王夫差的事儿呢？只有那城西河中的明月，曾经照耀过吴王宫殿，照耀过在宫中灯红酒绿的人。
注释
苏台：即姑苏台，故址在今江苏省苏州市西南姑苏山上。览：观览。
旧苑：指苏台。苑：园林。
菱歌：东南水乡老百姓采菱时唱的民歌。清唱：形容歌声婉转清亮。
吴王宫里人：指吴王夫差宫廷里的嫔妃。
苏台览古创作背景
唐天宝（唐玄宗年号，742—756）初年，李白游姑苏台时做此诗，通过对姑苏台今昔变化的描写，表达作者对昔盛今衰的感慨之情。
苏台览古鉴赏
此诗兴由“苏台览古”而起，抒发古今异变，昔非今比的感慨，则今日所见之苑囿台榭，已非昔日之苑囿台榭；今日苑囿台榭的杨柳青青，无边春色，不仅令人想起它曾有过的繁华，更令人想起它曾经历过的落寞。起句的“旧苑荒台”，以极衰飒之景象，引出极感伤的心境；而“杨柳新”，又以极清丽的物色，逗引起极愉悦的兴会。前者包含着属于历史的巨大伤痛，让人不由去作深沉的反省；后者又显示出大自然无私的赐予，召唤着人们去追求、去享受、及时行乐。第二句，继续对这种感受作进一步烘托。由柳岸湖中传来一曲曲悠扬悦耳的江南小调，更为这人世间不尽的春花春月增添了无限的柔情蜜意。不胜，犹不尽。“不胜春”三字，似乎将人们的欢乐推向了极致。但此时此刻，正是这些歌声，勾引起诗人的无限怅惘：昔日的春柳春花，吴王的骄奢，西子的明艳，以及他们花前月下的歌舞追欢，馆娃宫中的长夜之饮，都不断在诗人的脑海中盘旋浮动，使诗人躁动不安。由此，引出了三四两句。这是经由“旧苑荒台”逗引起的情感体验的进一步升华。人间没有不散的筵席，物是人非、江山依旧，昔日苏台富丽堂皇，歌舞升平，今天只剩下那斜挂在西江之上的一轮明月了。这两句景色凄清，情感古今，以含蓄不尽的言外之意，味外之旨，使读者的情感体验产生了新的飞跃。永恒的西江明月和薄命的宫中美人，作为一组具有特殊象征意义的语境，旨意遥深，感人肺腑。
此诗一上来就写吴苑的残破，苏台的荒凉，而人事的变化，兴废的无常，自在其中。后面紧接以杨柳在春天又发新芽，柳色青青，年年如旧，岁岁常新，以“新”与“旧”不变，不变的景物与变化的人事，做鲜明的对照，更加深了凭吊古迹的感慨。一句之中，以两种不同的事物来对比，写出古今盛衰之感，用意遣词，精练而自然。次句接写当前景色，而昔日的帝王宫殿，美女笙歌，却一切都已化为乌有。所以后两句便点出，只有悬挂在从西方流来的大江上的那轮明月，是亘古不变的；只有她，才照见过吴宫的繁华，看见过像夫差、西施这样的当时人物，可以做历史的见证人罢了。
这首诗所表述的不仅有古今盛衰的历史喟叹，而且有执着强烈的生命意识。因为，作为万物之灵的人，总是在不断追求着自由自在，追求着超越解脱。但是，这种渴望与追求常常难以实现，人就常常难免陷入一种痛苦绝望的境地。古今贤愚，莫不如此，英雄美人，无一例外。

李白（701年－762年），字太白，号青莲居士，唐朝浪漫主义诗人，被后人誉为“诗仙”。祖籍陇西成纪(待考)，出生于西域碎叶城，4岁再随父迁至剑南道绵州。李白存世诗文千余篇，有《李太白集》传世。762年病逝，享年61岁。其墓在今安徽当涂，四川江油、湖北安陆有纪念馆。
