初，张咏在成都，闻准入相，谓其僚属曰：“寇公奇材，惜学术不足尔。”及准出陕，咏适自成都罢还，准严供帐，大为具待。咏将去，准送之郊，问曰：“何以教准？”咏徐曰：“《霍光传》不可不读也。”准莫谕其意，归，取其传读之，至“不学无术”，笑曰：“此张公谓我矣。”
寇准读书译文及注释
译文
起初，张咏在成都做官，听说寇准做了宰相，就对自己的同僚下属说：“寇准是少见的人才，可惜他知识学问不够啊。”等到寇准出使到陕西的时候，恰好张咏从成都被罢官回来，寇准隆重设宴，准备酒食款待张咏。张咏将要离开的时候，寇准把他一直送到郊外，寇准问他：“您有什么话要教导我吗？”张咏慢慢地说：“《霍光传》不能不去看啊。”寇准没有领会到他的意思，回去以后拿出《霍光传》来看，看到里面有“不学无术”这句话的时候，才明白过来。笑着说：“这是张先生在说我啊。”
