译文
纸围屏风石作枕头，卧在竹床多么清凉，久举书卷手已疲累，抛书一旁渐入悠长梦乡。
醒来后不觉独自微笑，把世事细细思量，忽听几声清亮的渔笛回旋在沧浪水上。
注释
车盖亭：在湖北安陆西北。
书：蔡确诗有“卧展柴桑处士诗”之句，或以为“书”即指陶渊明诗集。解为一般书史亦可。
莞然，微笑貌。
沧浪（láng）：即汉水，为长江最大支流。汉水东南流经陕西南部、湖北西北部和中部。
夏日登车盖亭创作背景
蔡确积极支持王安石变法，元丰五年（1082年），拜尚书右仆射兼中书侍郎（右丞相）。神宗死，哲宗继位。元祐元年（1086年），罢知陈州。元祐二年（1087年）因为“军器监之狱”受其弟蔡硕牵连，被贬知安州（湖北安陆），夏日登车盖亭，作了十首诗，此其第二首。

夏日登车盖亭鉴赏
这首诗，着意刻画了作者贬官后的闲散之态和对隐居生活的向往。“纸屏石枕竹方床，手倦抛书午梦长。”这两句说：游亭之后，便躺在纸屏遮挡的石枕、竹方床上，看了一会儿陶渊明的诗（“卧展柴桑处士诗”），感到有些倦怠，便随手抛书，美美地睡了一觉。诗人是“夏日登车盖亭”的，因而，读了“纸屏、石枕、方竹床”，写得气清意爽；读了“手倦抛书、午梦长”，表现了诗人闲散之态；并且从“午梦长”中，还透出一点半隐半露的消息，这要联系下文来理解。
“睡觉莞然成独笑”，梦醒之后，诗人“莞然独笑”，是在“午梦长”中有所妙悟，从而领略到人生如梦，富贵如云烟。。诗人所读的书，是“柴桑处士诗”；诗人所作的梦，也是耕樵处士之梦；梦中是处士，醒来是谪官，他想想昔为布衣平民（“持正年二十许岁时，家苦贫，衣服稍敝。”事见《懒真子》），鸿运一来，金榜题名，仕途廿载，官至丞相，后来天翻地覆，谪居此地，如同大梦一场。由此，他想到了归隐；想到归隐，马上便有隐者的呼唤——“数声渔笛在沧浪”。而听到了“数声渔笛”，他的归隐之情就表现得更加强烈了。
唐代诗人王维写过一首《酬张少府》：“晚年唯好静，万事不关心。自顾无长策，空知返旧林。松风吹解带，山月照弹琴。君问穷通理，渔歌入浦深。”这首诗一方面明示作者“万事不关心”，一方面又描摹了他聆听“渔歌入浦深”的情状，所以归隐的题旨比较明显。而蔡确这首诗，却仅以“莞然独笑”、“数声渔笛”揭示主旨，这就比王维之诗更形委婉；更具韵外之致和味外之旨。《楚辞·渔父》：“渔父莞尔而笑，鼓枻而去，乃歌曰：‘沧浪之水清兮，可以濯吾缨，沧浪之水浊兮，可以濯吾足’，遂去，不复与言。”王逸《楚辞章句》注：“水清，喻世昭明，沐浴，升朝廷也；水浊，喻世昏暗，宜隐遁也。”描写闲散生活，委婉抒发归隐之志，便是这首诗的主旨。
