拥红妆，翻翠盖，花影暗南浦。波面澄霞，兰艇采香去。有人水溅红裙，相招晚醉，正月上、凉生风露。
两凝伫。别后歌断云间，娇姿黯无语。魂梦西风，端的此心苦。遥想芳脸轻颦，凌波微步，镇输与、沙边鸥鹭。
祝英台近·荷花鉴赏
首三句描绘荷花、荷叶，以红妆、翠盖来形容它们，以“拥”字衬托荷花之艳丽，以“翻”字刻画风吹荷叶的状态。时当盛夏，放眼眺望，但见水面上“接天莲叶无穷碧，映日荷花别样红。”（杨万里《晓出净慈送林子方》）这里用一“暗”字说明其投影荫蔽了水边之地。
“波面”两句，以澄霞比喻荷花，陈与义《虞美人》词小序中描写荷花云：“行舟之前后如朝霞相映，望之不断也。”伊人亦结伴登上小舟，泛游于荷花中。采香，见范成大《吴郡志》卷八：“吴王种香于香山，使美人泛舟于溪以采香。”这里就指采摘荷花。
“有人”四句，写饮酒游乐。欧阳修有《渔家傲》一首，是用民歌方式渲染出欢乐的情调，可以作为对比：“花底忽闻敲两桨，逡巡女伴来寻访。酒盏旋将荷叶当。莲舟荡，时时盏里生红浪。花气酒香清厮酿，花腮酒面红相向。醉倚绿阴眠一饷。惊起望，船头搁在沙滩上。”写民间少女以荷叶当酒盏，欢饮至脸庞和荷花一样，醉眠于船中而不知船已搁浅。在本词则仅以“水溅红裙”和“晚醉”来概括这游乐的场面，他们在舟中泼水相戏，溅湿了色如荷花的红裙，欢饮至于都有了醉意。不知不觉，已是夜幕降临，月儿初上，风清露凉，欢乐已随白昼消逝，分别的时刻终于来到了。
下片连接上文写分别以后，思念同舟赏荷的伊人。“两凝伫”，点出双方黯然难舍之情。伊人去后，唯余寂聊忧闷，耳中不闻遏云歌声，“娇姿”是指怀想中伊人默默无语的姿容，同时也关连到眼前“欲敛娇红向人语”的荷花。
“魂梦”两句，写西风乍起，想伊人别情无限，魂牵梦萦，心中良苦。这里亦暗指荷花红，莲心苦，“朝来又觉西风起。”“莲子与人长厮类。无好意。年年苦在中心里。”（欧阳修《渔家傲》）
结末四句。以“遥想”两字，设想伊人此时亦正为相思所苦，她漫步水滨，双眉微蹙，宛如凌波仙子，纵然相隔云山万叠，自己亦能领会她的柔情。但她那优雅的仪态和轻盈的步履，犹如四周嫣然摇动的荷花，“日暮青盖亭亭，GREn/ target=_blank class=infotextkey>情人不见，争忍凌波去。只恐舞衣寒易落，愁入西风南浦。”（姜夔《念奴娇》）两者如今都无由得见，这种清幽的境界，亦只好让水际沙边的鸥鹭去领略了。

高观国,南宋词人。字宾王，号竹屋。山阴(今浙江绍兴)人。生卒年不详。生活于南宋中期，年代约与姜夔相近。与史达祖友善，常常相互唱和，词亦齐名，时称“高，史”。其成就虽不及史达祖，但也有值得重视之处。他善于创造名句警语，如“香心静，波心冷，琴心怨，客心惊”；“开遍西湖春意烂，算群花、正作江山梦”，都颇为后人传诵。从其作品中看不出有仕宦的痕迹，大约是一位以填词为业的吟社中人。为“南宋十杰”之一。有词集《竹屋痴语》。
