画眉鸟译文及注释
译文一
来到树林里，看到画眉鸟在开满红红紫紫山花的枝头自由自在地飞翔，听到它们在高高低低的树梢上随着自己的心意尽情愉快地唱歌，不由得感慨到 ：如果把它们锁起来，即使是锁在金笼里，它们也不会唱出这样美妙的歌声了。因为自由是生活愉快的先决条件。鸟是这样，人不也是这样吗？
译文二
千百声的鸟的鸣叫声，随着自己的心意任意回荡着，
(就在那)山花万紫千红绽放在高低有致的林木里。
这才明白：（以前)听到那锁在金笼内的画眉叫声，
远比不上悠游林中时的自在啼唱。
注释
啭：鸟婉转地啼叫
随意：随着自己（鸟）的心意。
树高低：树林中的高处或低处。
金笼：贵重的鸟笼，喻指不愁吃喝、生活条件优越的居所。
百啭千声：形容画眉叫声婉转，富于变化。
始知：现在才知道。
不及：远远比不上。

画眉鸟创作背景
这是首诗创作时间不详，学术界流传三种说法：景祐三年（1036年）至康定元年（1040年）间；庆历八年（1048年）至至和元年（1054年）八月间；熙宁四年（1071年）六月至熙宁五年（1072年）七月二十三日，其间欧阳修以太子少师的身份辞职。

画眉鸟鉴赏
这首篇借咏画眉以抒发自己的性灵，诗题一作《郡斋闻百舌》。画眉、百舌，都是声音婉转的鸣禽，诗人在《啼鸟》诗中也写过“南窗睡多春正美，百舌未晓催天明。黄鹂颜色已可爱，舌端哑咤如娇婴。”可见他对“林间自在啼”的欣赏，这儿以“锁向金笼”与之对比，更见出诗人挣脱羁绊、向往自由的心理。诗人本在朝为官，后因党争牵连，贬为知州知县，此两句大概有所寄托。
欧阳修的《画眉鸟》，前两句写景：画眉鸟千啼百啭，一高一低舞姿翩翩，使得嫣红姹紫的山花更是赏心悦目。后两句抒情：看到那些关在笼里的鸟儿，真羡慕飞啭在林间的画眉鸟，自由自在，无拘无束。这里也要了解的是，作者欧阳修此时因在朝中受到排挤而被贬到滁州，写作此诗的心情也就可知了。
写画眉实是写自己，画眉鸟的百啭千声的表达的是归隐山林、不受羁绊的心曲。看山花烂漫、叶木葱笼，管什么金带紫袍；无限的欣喜快慰如山间清流泻出，洗尽俗尘，只余下悦耳的音韵流转。运用了对比手法：前两句（写自由自在，任意翔鸣的画眉）与后两句（写陷入囚笼，失去了自由的画眉）构成对比。

欧阳修（1007－1072），字永叔，号醉翁，晚号“六一居士”。汉族，吉州永丰（今江西省永丰县）人，因吉州原属庐陵郡，以“庐陵欧阳修”自居。谥号文忠，世称欧阳文忠公。北宋政治家、文学家、史学家，与韩愈、柳宗元、王安石、苏洵、苏轼、苏辙、曾巩合称“唐宋八大家”。后人又将其与韩愈、柳宗元和苏轼合称“千古文章四大家”。
