大冷天里，水鸟为了暖和挤在一起，十几只几百只一起，在快要落山的太阳光下游戏。路上的人走来走去，它们都不躲开，忽然听到水里哗啦一声响，它们吓一跳，“轰”的一下一齐飞了起来。
注释
还自广陵：这是作者从广陵回家乡高邮的路上写的诗。广陵，现在的江苏省扬州市。
相依：挤在一起。
落晖：西下的阳光。
过尽：走光，走完。
还自广陵鉴赏
山水诗除以情景相生见长外，还得有味，有趣味。水鸟哄飞，是常见景，但秦观这首诗写得声色兼备、生趣盎然，非常巧妙地写出春的信息。
“天寒水鸟自相依，十百为群戏落晖”，开头两句既自然清新，又生动传神。“依”、“戏”二字，把水鸟天真烂漫之姿，表现得真是惟妙惟肖。它们仿佛不是一群鸟，而是一群天真无邪的孩子在相戏打闹。晚霞抚摸着它们，它们也正在尽情地享受着大自然给它们安排的和谐、安逸、自由的生活，这种物物相亲的情景，令人羡慕神往。
这两句的艺术技巧是相当娴熟的。“寒”有冷意，“相依”是静态，这是一幅表现静态美的画面；“戏”是动态，“落晖”却有暖意，这又是一幅表现动态美的画面。但这二者又不是割裂的而是浑然一体的。一部分水鸟在“自相依”，另一部分水鸟却在“十百为群”地嬉戏，这种合而有分，分而有合的状态，这种动静相宜的情调，正是自然界每时每刻所呈现的生动而实在的面貌。这一组画面是采用白描手法，点出了早春时令、晚霞中水鸟的安闲。
“过尽行人都不起，忽闻水响一齐飞”，这是精彩传神之笔。从形式上看，第三句是前两句的承续，但又是为第四句蓄势，“不起”，正是为“起”作准备的。从表现水鸟的动势上看；诗人是有意按照由安静到微动（“戏落晖”）再到喧动（“一齐飞”）的顺序步步演进的；从所表现的声音的频率上看，则是按照由静场（“自相依”）到轻响（“戏落晖”）再到骤响（“冰响一齐飞”）的层次把音阶步步增高的。动态和声态同步进行，丝丝入扣，配合默契。最后，在第四句融为一体，把全诗的意境推向高潮。
意境上看，前面描绘出落晖，后面冲飞入天，融人晚霞，更为壮美。这里，既有绘画美，又有色彩美，更因群鸟齐飞，呱呱乱叫，传送出声态美。真是景象飞动，诗趣盎然。

秦观（1049-1100）字太虚，又字少游，别号邗沟居士，世称淮海先生。汉族，北宋高邮（今江苏）人，官至太学博士，国史馆编修。秦观一 生坎坷，所写诗词，高古沉重，寄托身世，感人至深。秦观生前行踪所至之处，多有遗迹。如浙江杭州的秦少游祠，丽水的秦少游塑像、淮海先生祠、莺花亭；青田的秦学士祠；湖南郴州三绝碑；广西横县的海棠亭、醉乡亭、淮海堂、淮海书院等。秦观墓在无锡惠山之北粲山上，墓碑上书“秦龙图墓”几个大字。有秦家村、秦家大院以及省级文物保护单位古文游台。
