译文
到樊川故地重游，秋日的夕阳照射在杜陵衰败的荒草上。
应埸、刘桢逝去后阁楼生了苔藓，嵇康、阮籍回来后已是白发苍苍。
谁能说乱离之苦只有燕子，人生到处奔波不如鸥鸟懂得偷闲过生活。
桑田沧海的变迁没人看见，横拿着笛子流泪也于事无补。
注释
樊川：地名，在陕西长安县南。今西安市长安少陵原与神禾原之间的一片平川。汉高祖刘邦建都长安后，将此地封给大将樊哙，作为食邑，由此得名。
华州：据《元和郡县图志》卷第二云：“华州，禹贡雍州之域，周为畿内之国，郑桓公始封之邑。其地一名咸林。春秋时为秦，晋界邑。长城在卅I东七十二里。或说秦、晋分境祠华岳，故筑此城。战国时属秦，魏。”华州在今日的陕西渭南、华县、华阴、潼关一带。樊川和华州均为入蜀的必经之地。
旧游：昔日游览的地方。
杜陵：在长安东南。
应刘：汉末建安文人应玚、刘桢的并称。两人均为曹丕、曹植所礼遇。后亦用以泛称宾客才人。
稽阮：魏晋间著名文学家嵇康、阮籍的并称。两人均属竹林七贤。稽，当作“嵇”。
乱离：乱离之苦。惟有，只有。
解：懂，能。
千桑万海：犹沧海桑田。
空泪流：因感于人事变化无常而生悲。空，徒然。流泪于事无补所以说“空泪流力。

过樊川旧居创作背景
根据《过樊川旧居》题下自注“时在华州驾前奉使入蜀作”，可知此诗是韦庄奉使入蜀时的作品，时在乾宁四年（897年）。夏承焘在其《韦庄年谱》中认为《过樊川旧居》一诗作于乾宁四年丁巳。
