柳湘莲救了薛蟠一命，两人结为兄弟，贾琏把尤三姐许配给柳湘莲。柳湘莲听说尤三姐与姐夫贾珍有染，要求退婚，尤三姐以死殉节，柳湘莲从此出家。薛蟠派人去找没找到，薛姨妈说只要有行动就行，以免做事丢三落四令人笑话。
