南宋时期，奸臣秦桧做丞相，许多势利小人都依附于他作威作福，秦桧的亲戚曹咏因善于拍马屁而当官，十分得意，唯独曹咏的大舅子厉德斯不理他那套。秦桧死，曹咏被贬职，厉德斯写了一篇《树倒猢狲散赋》派人送给曹咏。
