借花献佛的典故

从前有一个小镇，闹蝗虫闹得很厉害，所以，不管种什么植物都长得不好，加上常常有猛兽下山吃鸡鸭，让镇民感到很不安，因此释迦牟尼佛特地从天上降临人间，施展佛法收拾了蝗虫，也驯服了猛兽。

镇上的人十分感谢佛祖，其中有一位穷人特地为佛祖献上一束鲜花。当释迦牟尼看到送花的人穿著破烂的衣服，浑身脏兮兮的，却捧着一束美丽的鲜花，忍不住就说：「你家需要我帮忙吗？」献花人说：“佛啊，我不敢欺骗您，我家里是很穷没错，就连这束花都是我去借来的，可是，这是我一片诚心，所以，请您一定要收下。”释迦牟尼十分感动，便让镇上所有的穷人都摆脱了贫穷，从此大家过着幸福的日子。
