火树银花的典故

睿宗是唐代君主中最会享乐的一位皇帝，虽然他只当了三年的皇帝，但不管什么佳节，他总要用很多的物力人力去铺张一番，供他的游玩。他每年逢正月元宵的夜晚，一定扎起二十丈高的灯树，点起五万多盏灯，号为火树。后来诗人苏味道就拿这个做题目，写了一首诗，描绘它的情形。他的元夕诗约道：“火树银花合，星桥铁锁开，暗尘随马去，明月逐人来。游妓皆■季，行歌尽落梅，金吾不禁夜，玉漏莫相催。”这首诗把当时热闹的情况，毫无隐瞒的描写出来，好像活跃在我们读者的眼前。这句成语是形容灯火盛的地方，望上去好像是火树银花的样子。所以现在凡是繁盛的都市，或有盛大的集会在夜间举行，灯光灿烂，都用这句话去形容它。
