拼音míng liè qián máo

基本解释名：名次；前茅：春秋时楚国用茅草做报警用的旌旗；行军时拿着走在队伍的前面；作为报警的信号；故称“前茅”。比喻名次挂在前面。多指考试或竞赛等。

出处先秦 左丘明《左传 宣公十二年》：“蔿敖为宰，择楚国之令典，军行，右辕，左追蓐，前茅虑无，中权，后劲。”

名列前茅的典故

春秋时期，晋国派大将荀林父做统率援助郑国，还没到黄河边，郑国就投降了楚国，他们执行楚国的好法典，楚军分右、左、前、中、后五军，由前军拿着茅草当旌旗开路。中军辅佐先不听荀林父的指挥而攻楚，结果大败而归。
