战国时期赵国准备攻打燕国，燕王派苏代去赵国游说赵王不要战争，讲述一只河蚌在岸上夹住一只鹬鸟的长嘴，双方争执不让，最后被一个渔翁轻易擒住。如果燕赵发生战争，秦国就像渔翁那样轻易吞并燕赵。赵王只好放弃战争的打算。
