数典忘祖的典故
《左传·昭公十五年》载：一次，晋大夫籍谈出使周朝。宴席间，周王问籍谈，晋何以无贡物，籍答道，晋从未受过王室的赏赐，何来贡物。周王就列举王室赐晋器物的旧典来，并责问籍谈，身为晋国司典的后代，怎么能“数典而忘其祖”，也就是说列举古代的典制而忘了祖先的职掌呢？
后用以比喻忘了事物的根本，也常用来讥刺对本国历史的无知。
