从前人们听说赤水里产玄珠，都潜水下去摸取。有人摸到螺蛳，有人摸到蚌壳，有人摸到鹅卵石，有人摸到瓦片。他们都以为自己摸到了玄珠。象罔听后大笑他们无知。他们则联合起来围攻象罔。象罔没法，只好躲到黄帝那儿三年不敢出门。
